The Developer's Guide to Freelancing

Freelancing offers incredible freedom, but it also comes with challenges that aren't taught in coding bootcamps. After years of freelancing as a web developer, I've learned a few hard-earned lessons.

The most important skill isn't coding — it's communication. Clear communication with clients about expectations, timelines, and scope prevents most problems before they start.

Pricing is another challenge. I've learned to charge by value, not by hour. A project that takes me 10 hours because of my experience might be worth more than a project that takes someone else 40 hours.

Finally, always have a contract. It protects both you and your client and sets clear expectations for deliverables, payment terms, and revisions.
